Daniel Kirk father inspired him at a early age by reading to him every night before he went to bed. Mr. Kirk said, " Often pictures from the books that were read to him made a bigger impression on him than the words from the books." One of his favorite books was "Mr. Bear builds a House" and he loved the Dr. Suess books for this book was were his imagination grew from all the amazing pictures and off the wall characters in Dr. Suess books. Futhermore, Mr. Kirk was inspired by his parents who were puppeteers who performed such books as Aesops, Brother Grimms and Mother Goose books. His daughter Ivy inspired the book series, "The Library Mouse" she loved to read books about mice who wore dresses and who drank tea. In Publishers Weekly, Mr. Kirk states he was inspired by his 3 children who at the time were teenagers they were no longer reading his children books therefore he decide to read young adult fantasy books.
